This month we are featuring a husband and wife’s Bates Division Identification Card and both of their AFL-CIO Life Memberships Cards — four of many in our collection! These union cards and Bates IDs belonged to Eugene and Lucille Bazinet, who both work at the Bates Manufacturing Company. The union cards were used to attend local union meetings. They were also vital in proving that the couple was a part of the union in order to receive benefits. The Bates ID cards were needed to enter the mills, as well as to collect pay, receive checks, file an insurance claim, and receive government bonds. The IDs were to be carried on the employees at all times while at the mills.
