This is a Bates bedspread with hearts and flowers on it. The bedspread is reversible: one side has flowers and hearts that are pink and white on a green background, the other side has flowers and hearts that are green and white on a pink background.

This is one of the many bedspread patterns Bates created that is now in our collection. The bedspreads were made using a jacquard loom which would use a pattern mechanism and punch cards to create the intricate designs. The patterns needed for the bedspreads were complex so the designs and patterns were first drawn by hand.
