This photograph was taken in October 1947, outside of the company’s office on 47 Whipple Street in Lewiston. American Bobbin Co. started in 1945, when it absorbed the name and assets of a Rhode Island corporation that had functioned since 1920.
The company was a part of the Bobbin Manufacturing Association, which consisted of multiple other bobbin makers in the Northeast, including Parker Bobbin & Spool Co. in Lowell, Massachusetts, Bobbin & Shuttle Co. in Nashua, New Hampshire, and the Vermont Spool & Bobbin Co. out of Burlington, Vermont. The Bobbin Manufacturing Association was responsible for manufacturing the majority of the bobbins and spools used by textile mills in the United States.
