History in Our Hands: Campaign for Maine MILL
Maine MILL is investing deeply in our community with a campaign to create a new museum that will become a regional pride point and catalyst for economic growth.
Founded in 1996, Maine MILL (formerly Museum L-A) was started by local citizens with a shared commitment to honoring and preserving the region’s stories, specifically the artifacts and history of the industries that fueled Western and Central Maine for more than 100 years.
Today we are building upon their vision by giving context and meaning to the present, and inspiring an inclusive, unified, and engaged tomorrow.

The new Maine MILL will include:
- Permanent and rotating exhibit spaces
- Learning center
- Hands-on, interactive design lab
- Children’s gallery
- October 25 memorial room
- Archives and collection storage
Through exhibitions, programs and partnerships, we will tell the diverse stories of hardworking people and the creativity and resilience that drive them. We will ask questions and foster connection. We will invent our future.
