This uniform jacket, features the signature gray and scarlet colors of Lewiston’s Le Montagnard snowshoe club. Founded in 1922 by Louis-Philippe Gagné, Le Montagnard was the first club of its kind in Lewiston. Each snowshoe club had a unique uniform, identifiable by its distinct color scheme and patches. For example, while Le Montagnard’s colors were gray and scarlet, another club, Le Diables Rouges, wore red and white. Typically, a complete uniform ensemble included a jacket with epaulettes, pants, a waist sash, a tasseled hat, long socks with tassels, insignia, and patches.
