Monique Young

Within this interview, Monique Young of the Lewiston-Auburn area talks about her family, and their movement from Lewiston, Maine to Connecticut, and back to Lewiston-Auburn following employment opportunities and relatives. She talks about her parents’ work in the shoe industry, and her early childhood involvement with shoes. She goes on to explain getting married at a young age, and choosing to work in the shoe industry as a result as opposed to attending college. She shares stories about working alongside her mother, being a sample girl, working for New Balance, working for Tambrands, and being unemployed to care for her father-in-law. She touches on computerized manufacturing, work in the mills, and the closing of shoe shops as well.
