Maria Goranites
Maria Goranites was born in 1914 in Greece, and moved to the U.S. around the age of 20-21, following her father in pursuit of a better life. She did not immediately find herself in Maine, but ultimately decided to settle in Saco in pursuit of employment at the local mill. In this interview she talks about her job as a weaver, and the difficulties she faced within it. She explains her motives in having the money to put her children through school, so that they would not have to work in the mills as she did. She also talks about the loss of her husband, people she knew in the mill, supervisors, and friends.
