Joe Mailey
Joe Mailey grew up in the 70s here in Lewiston-Auburn and started work at a very young age. He recalls being six years old when he was ‘hired’ by the Bisson Market to shovel the porch for pieces of chocolate. He worked carrying mail, worked for his parents car wash, worked in the mail room and at 18 tried to work for the Libby Mill but was told he was not mill material. He found a job at Enterprise Foundry where he worked with molds in the steel foundry, but when the pay stayed too low he went into the brick industry. Joe worked at the Morin Brickyard for a time and shares a lot of stories during his time there, including talking about the high turnover rates and the work environment.
